ABOUT

Celebrating 100 Years of Achievement in the Eastern Province

John M. Marquess was appointed as the first Eastern Province Polemarch. Brother Marquess was a native of Arkansas and a graduate of Fisk University (1902) and Dartmouth College (1904). During his time at Dartmouth, he sang on the College Choir and Glee Club and was a member of the Varsity Track Team. By profession, Marquess was an educator, teaching and leading several schools before serving as President of the Colored Agricultural and Normal University (which would become Langston University). Brother Marquess was the first in a long line of achievers that would serve as Eastern Province Polemarch.

Help us make this the biggest giving gift in the Province EP Kares history. Our goal is to raise $5,000. Are you up for the challenge? Scan the bar code to donate today!

On behalf of the Alexandria-Fairfax (VA) Alumni Chapter, we are proud to nominate Carpenter Shelter as one of our Eastern Province Kares organizations for donation. Carpenter Shelter exemplifies the spirit of compassion and service that perfectly aligns with our fraternal values and the Eastern Province’s Centennial commitment to uplifting communities.

Carpenter Shelter is more than just an emergency refuge—it serves as a beacon of hope for individuals facing homelessness and personal crises. Their comprehensive approach goes beyond providing safe shelter and nutritious meals; they equip residents with essential tools for lasting change, including counseling, job training, and life skills development. By addressing both immediate needs and systemic barriers, they empower individuals to rebuild their lives with dignity and purpose, fostering long-term self-sufficiency.

Our chapter selected Carpenter Shelter because its mission resonates deeply with our belief in “service that transforms.” Every dollar donated will directly impact lives, offering not just resources but opportunity—a chance for someone to regain stability, confidence, and hope. In supporting Carpenter Shelter, we strengthen the fabric of our shared community, ensuring that no one walks the path toward renewal alone.
